Coinciding with Melbourne Theatre Company’s Destiny, playwright Kirsty Marillier, writer and advocate Carly Findlay and poet Grace Yee explore personal and political histories through a diasporic lens.
Presented by Melbourne Theatre Company from 18 August to 13 September, Destiny is an intimate drama of allure and loyalty, set against the backdrop of the world-changing events of South Africa in 1976. Commissioned and developed through Melbourne Theatre Company’s NEXT STAGE Writers’ Program, Destiny is the latest work by award-winning playwright Kirsty Marillier.
At this special, free-to-attend event held at Southbank Theatre, join Marillier alongside writer and advocate Carly Findlay (Say Hello) and Victorian Premier’s Literary Award-winning poet Grace Yee (Chinese Fish) for a powerful discussion on cultural heritage, historical record and the role of memory in storytelling.
They each will unpack how their storytelling reckons with the past – and reimagines the present.
Seats are limited and registrations for this free event are required.
Registering for this event does not include entry to any performance of Destiny. Tickets to Destiny can be purchased separately through Melbourne Theatre Company’s website.
