Gain a new perspective on your creative practice with award-winning author Laura Jean McKay, in this special seminar for writers of all levels.
Taking the wrong path and making mistakes – we've all been there. But often that’s where the best stories begin.
In this inspiring seminar, Victorian Prize for Literature winner Laura Jean McKay (The Animals in That Country) will champion creativity in all its messy, unpredictable glory, and invite writers to embrace missteps and detours as essential to the creation of powerful works of fiction.
Whether you come with a project already underway or you’re looking to develop the kernel of an idea, McKay will demystify the process of taking the wrong path to the right story. Drawing on examples from her own acclaimed work, she will help you find inspiration in the mouldy petri dish that is creative practice, to embrace editing (and being edited) and how to uncover exciting, untapped ideas from the unlikeliest places.
The session will conclude with an extended participant Q&A, offering you the chance to seek professional advice and ask your most pressing questions about writing, drafting, editing and publishing fiction from one of Australia’s most original writers at work today.
